An interview with Teesside University international students

Lily and Boyle- He is from Thailand, studying Future Art.

Marjan and Mohammad-He is from Iran, studying MSc International Management.

Hello every one, this is an interview lily and I did with some of the international students. We appreciate their kind sharing of experiences, advices and thoughts.

You may read through the answers and see if you could get any help from it!

1. Any advice for further international students?
  • Mohammad said: Nothing special!
  • Boyle said: Turn up for all classes!
  • Lena said: Lecturers and also Student services (located in Clarendon Building) could help if you need advice.

2. What is it like studying in Teesside University?
  • Mohammad said: Could be a lot better!
  • Boyle said: Very satisfying!
  • Lena said: Great experience!

3. How are the lecturers, classes and new friends in university?
  • Mohammad said: A few of lecturers are not organized, because we haven’t yet received the feedbacks from the projects we handed in last year, but majority of them are helpful. I am happy with the new friends though!
  • Boyle said: I like the lecturers, classes and new friends!
  • Lena said: Nice lecturers compared to German university’s lecturers-they always look forward to seeing you and they spend lots of time with you. I like my new friends!

4. What do you like most being in Middlesbrough?
  • Mohammad said: Swimming and squash!
  • Boyle said: Learning English language!
  • Lena said: Everything!

5. How are the facilities in the university? Any facilities that you would like to recommend?
  • Mohammad said: They are ok! (Especially the access to pc’s and printers in all buildings)
  • Boyle said: It’s fine! No special facility to advise!
  • Lena said: Computer systems and internet are quite accessible.

6. Where are you currently staying? University accommodation or a private rental? Are the bills included?
  • Mohammad said: Student accommodation, bills are included, 300 pounds per month.
  • Boyle said: Private accommodation, bills are not included, 220 per room per month+30 pounds quarterly for the bills.
  • Lena said: Shared house, university accommodation.

7. Do you enjoy the university activities?
  • Mohammad said: Yes, sure!
  • Boyle said: Enjoy it very much!
  • Lena said: Yes!

8. What do you enjoy being as a Teesside university student?
  • Mohammad said: Sport’s facilities.
  • Boyle said: Work with different international students from all over the world.
  • Lena said: Many things!

9. Any obstacles/problems in the university?
  • Mohammad said: Blackboard, I have not been able to work on the black board for 3-4 months.
  • Boyle said: None!
  • Lena said: Accommodation (problematic people, and also heating system, we don’t have hot water and the university doesn’t fix them quickly!)

10. Any obstacles/problems being new in a foreign location?
  • Mohammad said: Being homesick!
  • Boyle said: None! Except I‘d like to improve my English language!
  • Lena said: No!

11. What do you think about the local people in Middlesbrough?
  • Mohammad: Not bad!
  • Boyle said: Not bad!
  • Lena said: Friendly and nice!

12. What do you wish you knew before you arrive in UK?
  • Mohammad said: That how painful the whole experience would be!!!
  • Boyle said: The English language!
  • Lena said: Nothing special!
